Thymosin Alpha 1 is a 28-amino-acid peptide immunomodulator extracted from the thymus or produced synthetically, and is a key member of the thymosin family (trade name examples include Zadaxin). It mimics the hormone naturally secreted by the human thymus and exerts its effects by modulating immune system function. It has been approved as a prescription drug in more than 30 countries worldwide, primarily for disorders associated with immunodeficiency. In research and compounding settings, it is also widely used for immune support and adjunctive therapy. This content is intended for research and reference purposes only and should not be construed as medical advice.
Immunomodulation: Enhances T cell maturation, differentiation and function, promotes NK cell and dendritic cell activity, and balances the Th1/Th2 immune response. Antiviral: Adjunctive treatment of chronic hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV and other viral infections, improving antiviral efficacy. Antitumor adjunct: Enhances immune surveillance and serves as an adjunct to cancer chemotherapy/radiotherapy, improving patient tolerability. Other effects: Improves immunosuppressive states (e.g., post-surgical, age-related immune decline), supports anti-infection defense, reduces inflammation, and may aid recovery from COVID-19 or other respiratory infections. Characteristics: Bidirectional immunomodulation (both enhancing immunity and suppressing excessive immune responses), with a favorable safety profile.
Route of administration: subcutaneous injection (SC), typically in the abdominal or thigh area. Reference dosing (commonly used in clinical practice; follow physician's instructions): Standard dose: 1.6 mg per administration, twice weekly. Treatment course: Typically 6 months for viral hepatitis and similar conditions; short-term use (e.g., 4 weeks) for adjunctive therapy. Research/immune support: 0.8–6.4 mg per administration, adjusted according to body weight and clinical condition. Reconstitution: Reconstitute the lyophilized powder with the supplied saline or bacteriostatic water. May be used alone or in combination with other immune/antiviral agents.
